Visiting Fronteira Palace in Lisbon

Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira (Fronteira Palace)

A few years ago, I had the great pleasure of meandering through the Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira gardens in Lisbon. I took these photographs to remind me of the magnificent azulejos that adorn the garden.

I highly recommend the book Portuguese Decorative Tiles by Rioletta Sabo for beautiful photographs of Portugal’s azulejos.

Wish I were there, although it appears many of us will need to be content with virtual tourism for a while, due to Coronavirus.

Have you received your complimentary copy of “Smiling in the Darkness” yet? I haven’t, but hope it arrives soon. I thought we did a great job translating it, and can hardly wait to hold the book!

Congratulations on the translation of Adelaide Freita’s book and thank you for letting me be a part of this important project. Looking forward to reading it in book form!

Este palácio proporciona realmente uma bela visita pela grande riqueza de azulejos. Também o visitei à 2 ou 3 anos e foi uma agradável surpresa.

    Hi Emanuel:
Palácio da Fronteira is one of my favourite spots in Lisbon, and your photos took me there again in a flash. Beautiful photos indeed! I so relished the contrast between the deep cobalt blue of the exterior walls and the orange red of the building mediated by subtler tones of the azulejos, the ivory of the statues and the green of the shrubs. Thanks for this.
