Revisiting Little Portugal

Illustration by Michael do Carmo Baptista

I am excited to announce that the newly formed Mirador Artistries Collective started this September to publish monthly in Milénio.

We are grateful to Manuel da Costa who has generously offered us a feature “Mirador” page in his newspaper to showcase the talent of Portuguese Canadian writers and poets.

The brainchild of Portuguese Canadian writer Humberto da Silva, author of Compassion Fatigue, MAC (Mirador Artistries Collective) welcomes and encourages other writers, poets and artists from the Portuguese community to submit their writing for possible selection and publication in Milénio.

Submissions are made through our submission portal.

I am honoured that my text, Revisiting Little Portugal, was chosen for publication in the October 2 edition of the “Mirador” page in Milénio. I hope you enjoy reading it.

A reworking of a text I originally posted on my blog in 2019, it tells the story of Luis as he meanders through the streets of Toronto looking for the Portuguese presence in the city in an ever-changing landscape.
